Description Are you an experienced construction professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for public safety? The Building Safety Department is seeking a Codes Inspector II to join our dedicated team. In this role, you’ll ensure compliance with building codes and regulations, conduct essential inspections, and provide expert guidance to foster safe and sustainable development within our community. Examples of Duties Directs, supervises, and reviews the work of designated inspectors in their respective area(s) of expertise, including reviewing and prioritizing inspection requests to prepare daily schedules for inspectors, and providing training, technical advice, and consultations on complex inspection related issues. Conducts a variety of commercial, industrial, and/or residential building and safety inspections of new and existing properties in one or more of the following specialized areas of work assignment: electrical, plumbing, mechanical or building inspections to ensure compliance with ordinances, approved plans, specifications, regulations, and building codes. Reviews plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations, including energy and disability access provisions, and advises contractors or other related parties accordingly. Confers with and provides information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and others regarding code requirements. Addresses any complaints or problems from concerned parties and takes appropriate measures to ensure an expedient resolution and customer satisfaction in a timely and courteous manner. Investigates complaints regarding existing buildings or new construction to determine appropriate usage, code violations, or existing problem conditions. Interprets codes and regulations and explains permit and compliance conditions. Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED; and At least three (3) years of experience in a construction trade; or Any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must possess an International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Plan Examiner Certification. Must possess or obtain a discipline certification within one year of employment in either plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building inspection. Must possess a state license specific to the functional area of work assignment. During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team. In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing. Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
