QUESTIONS
Position Information
The purpose of this classification is to review construction building plans for compliance with local, state and federal building codes and to process related permits
Essential Functions
Receives, reviews and analyzes routine building site and construction plans and architectural drawings submitted for permit to determine compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances
Provides information and technical assistance concerning code requirements: discusses problem areas with property owners and contractors; recommends solutions to problems; responds to questions or complaints concerning code violations
Interprets, administers and enforces the provisions of applicable local, state, and federal development codes: researches code-related issues in code books as needed; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations
Maintains records of all plans review activities: prepares, submits, and files inspection reports, permits, building plans, and other relevant documents
Performs coordinator role for the county’s electronic plan review system: intakes plans, distribute to appropriate departments for review, assemble departmental comments and provide them to applicant, ensures that all reviewing agencies approve plans in a timely and accurate manner
Coordinates plan review and approval meetings; acts as chair; coordinates files, plans and associated paperwork for meetings; assures compliance with federal wetlands laws and state erosion control laws; assures proper fees and collection prior to permit issue
Reviews preliminary and final plats of subdivisions, town homes and condominiums for compliance with platting laws, County ordinances and development standards
Assists customers with general questions concerning the development process, wetlands, floodplain, tree ordinance, permits and plats; meets with professionals and the general public to discuss design issues and explain regulations
Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in construction trades, building technology, or related field required; supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in construction or code enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License Must acquire required licenses, certifications or equivalent education within the probationary period for the position
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds) Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station
