Job Description

Onsite ship construction technical lead 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars Houma, LA 70363 ECS is seeking an Onsite ship construction technical lead to work in our Houma, LA office. The position will work directly for the onsite ECS program manager and will support the construction of various new ship design and construction programs at Thoma Sea Marine Constructors in Houma , LA and Lockport, LA supporting NOAA’s office of Platform Infrastructure and Acquisition Division ( PIAD). Incumbent will work in conjunction with a combination of

personnel, NOAA government personnel, PMS 325 and fellow ECS contractors, as well as all shipyard crafts. Will be involved in various shipyard activities and submissions to ensure the contract compliance. This is a position that requires a lot of time in the shipyard, walking the ship(s) and providing oversight, climbing ladders, entering tight space and work in hot/cold environments. This is not a desk position and not administrative in nature. There is of course some administrative tasks with this role, however the focus is oversight of construction. The incumbent will be part of the

PIAD/OMAO

team and will participate in construction conferences and will provide technical recommendations and support management team meetings/reviews. The incumbent will work as part of the on-site project office staff and will be involved with all aspects of new ship construction. Will support contract compliance, regulatory compliance, and compartment close outs. It will be necessary to write reports on various subjects as appropriate and perform other duties as assigned, with a focus on the government’s inspection team for oversight, testing acceptance, and/or maintenance of all new vessels currently under contract/construction.

Requirements:

10 years’ experience/knowledge of the methods, processes and techniques used in new ship construction and installation of various systems during every stage of new ship construction, including QA/QC and construction oversight. Must be able to read ship construction drawings Must have VT level 2 certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire Must have PT level 2 certification or be able to obtain within 8 months of hire. Detail oriented and well organized Ability to work in a fast paced constantly changing environment, working independently with the local on site team in the shipyard. Strong industry experience with a focus on shipbuilding and engineering systems Strong technical and specification review/writing experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Intimate experience with standard software used during ship construction, all Microsoft products and Sharepoint.
