Opening Date 02/28/2025 Closing Date 3/25/2025 11:59 PM Central Agency Minimum Salary $43,509.31 Agency Maximum Salary $44,000.00 About the Agency The Board of Animal Health was created by the Mississippi Legislature, Section 69-15-9, Mississippi Code of 1972, and given plenary power to deal with all contagious and infectious diseases of animals as in the opinion of the board may be prevented, controlled, or eradicated, and with full power to make, promulgate, and enforce such rules and regulations as may be necessary to control, eradicate and prevent those diseases. About the Position Incumbents in this classification are responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the Mississippi Board of Animal Health. The work consists of routine inspection of commercial poultry facilities, investigating violations, securing information, maintaining reports, preparing and dealing with emergency management animal health issues, assisting in prosecution and enforcement of quarantine regulations. The job assignment requires personal contact with livestock and poultry owners, vending house employees, state and federal agency personnel, and the general public. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to: 1) Performing routine on-site inspections of commercial poultry facilities. 2) May involve non-routine testing of poultry and game birds for diseases which includes blood and bodily fluid sampling. 3) Preparing reports and required forms following established procedures and state/federal guidelines. 4) Must be proficient in Microsoft Applications, particularly EXCEL, WORD, OUTLOOK and familiar with

MS TEAMS. 5

) May require occasional overnight travel. 6) Will be required to wear provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting inspections and testing. This may include gloves, N95 mask, protective clothing, rubber boots, etc. What you’ll need to be Successful Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and commitment to the public trust through statements and actions. Takes ownership of tasks, performance standards, and mistakes. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience or a Master’s Degree.•

Agency Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Health Science or related degree; or Associates Degree and 2-4 years of experience. Due to the location of commercial poultry farms, candidates that reside in Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Marion, Simpson, Smith, and Walthall counties are preferred.
