About this Opportunity The Lead Multi-Trades Inspector inspects building construction and existing structures for compliance with applicable building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and related codes and ordinances. This position requires advanced technical knowledge and experience in interpreting and enforcing regulations. Responsibilities include assisting with the supervision, training, and mentoring of inspection staff, as well as preparing and maintaining accurate inspection reports and documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate tact, courtesy, and firmness in interactions with contractors, property owners, and the general public, while effectively using strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Education and Experience High school diploma supplemented by seven years of experience in building inspection or construction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Special Requirements Must possess current standard or probationary certificates in building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical trades at level III certification. These certifications are issued by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board. Must possess a valid North Carolina state driver’s license. Physical Requirements Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require traversing uneven terrain, entering confined spaces and/or climbing ladders during field inspections.
