This role will be responsible for overseeing and conducting inspections of commercial electrical systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes. This position assists the Chief Electrical Inspector in managing inspection staff, providing guidance on complex inspections, and enforcing regulations to maintain and ensure that all electrical installations meet or exceed local and national safety standards.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Inspections & Compliance:

Perform and oversee inspections of commercial electrical installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA, local regulations). Investigate and resolve electrical code violations, safety hazards, and complaints.

Leadership & Supervision:

Assist in supervising electrical inspectors, providing technical guidance and support. Train and mentor staff on electrical codes, inspection techniques, and regulatory updates. Participate in performance evaluations and recommend corrective actions when needed.

Technical Support & Code Interpretation:

Advise contractors, engineers, architects, and the public on electrical code requirements. Stay updated on new electrical codes, trends, and industry standards. Assist in developing policies, procedures, and training programs for electrical inspections.

Documentation & Reporting:

Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, violations, and corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of inspections, permits, and enforcement activities.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work with other departments, such as fire and building inspection, to ensure overall compliance. Represent the department in meetings, hearings, and professional associations.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), local, commercial and building electrical codes and systems, safety standards and devices and troubleshooting techniquesFamiliarity with large-scale installations and complex systemsProficient in reading blueprints, electrical schematics, and building plansAbility to work in high-pressure environments with tight deadlinesAbility in interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standardsTime management and organizational and communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex electrical issues

Working Conditions:
