About the Role Reporting to the Utilities Engineering Manager, the Engineering Projects Coordinator plans, coordinates, and inspects both aerial and underground public-utility installations (Duke Energy, AT&T, gas pipelines, roadway projects, etc.) within City rights-of-way.

Key responsibilities include:

Reviewing utility plans and issuing right-of-way encroachment permits Inspecting utility construction for compliance; verifying asphalt & concrete restoration Interpreting engineering drawings to minimize City project costs Conducting site visits, documenting quantities, and approving/denying final work Collecting fees and monitoring relocation budgets Attending pre-bid and pre-construction meetings with City staff, utility companies, and private developers Participating in Emergency Management Team activations as needed You’ll need a solid grasp of NCDOT, railroad, and City specifications, plus an understanding of power lines, fiber optics, gas lines, traffic signals, and related infrastructure. Qualifications What You Bring Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED with 7-9 years of experience with and/or knowledge of Public Utility (for example: Duke Energy, AT&T, natural gas, gas pipelines, roadway projects, etc.) in Construction Inspection & Installation, to include utility encroachments, “OR” No High School Diploma/GED with 9-11 years of experience with and/or knowledge of Public Utility (for example: Duke Energy, AT&T, natural gas, gas pipelines, roadway projects, etc.) in Construction Inspection & Installation, to include utility encroachments, “OR” Associate’s Degree with 5-7 years of experience with and/or knowledge of Public Utility (for example: Duke Energy, AT&T, natural gas, gas pipelines, roadway projects, etc.) in Construction Inspection & Installation, to include utility encroachments Experience in reading civil & utility plans Experience with asphalt and concrete placement Valid Driver’s License Preferred Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field Municipal utility-construction inspection experience Experience with NCDOT and/or railroad specifications & ordinances Emergency Management Institute FEMA Certification NCDOT and/or American Concrete Institute Concrete Testing Inspection Certification Surveying experience Ready to Lead?
