Junior Utility Coordinator STV, Inc. dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, parental leave, paid time off, paid holidays, 401(k) United States, North Carolina, Charlotte 1000 W Morehead St (Show on map) Jun 17, 2025 STV Inc. has an immediate need for a Junior Utility Coordinator in the Charleston, SC and/or Charlotte, NC area to assist with utility coordination and relocations for SCDOT and NCDOT projects. Columbia SC or Rock Hill SC office locations will be considered for highly qualified candidates. The work comprises of utilizing various resources, under the guidance of Senior Utility Coordinators and Project Managers, to determine utility conflicts and subsequent utility relocations and potentially oversee the relocation of utilities prior to construction contract commencement. The ideal candidate is an individual who desires to lead by example, is able to undertake multiple concurrent projects, an excellent communicator, and possesses a strong understanding of construction safety principles.
Job Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of Senior Utility Coordinators and Project Managers to independently perform various utility coordination tasks, prepare quality deliverables within the required timelines, on multiple projects.
Develop utility relocations strategies and provide coordination/relocation services to accomplish removal, relocation, and modification of utility facilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunication, etc.)
Interpret highway construction plans, drainage summaries, specifications, etc. to identify utility impacts
Working knowledge of all policies, regulations, and engineering standards set forth by the Federal Highway Administration, North and South Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, and all application General Statutes related to utility relocation
Knowledge of innovative construction methods while adhering to all environmental regulations and roadway design standards
Must have strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks/projects
Schedule utility meetings with SCDOT/NCDOT, utility owners, and contractors as directed by Senior Utility Coordinators and Project Managers. Prepare meeting agendas and minutes
Proficiently and professionally communicate technical information
Work closely with other design disciplines to determine most practical utility conflict resolutions
Assit with Subsurface Utility Engineering recommendations and interpreting data
Determine cost responsibility (prior rights) and assist utility owners with preparation of utility agreements, relocation plans, and relocation schedules
Assemble utility relocation packages for submittal to
NCDOT/SCDOT
Independently Prepare and plot Utility by Others (UBO) and U-sheet plans in MicroStation
Independently Prepare, maintain, and update utility reports, conflict matrix spreadsheets, utility costs, and utility agreements
Independently plot existing and proposed utilities on cross sections and corridor models
Prepare Environmental Permit drawings and narratives
Attend field meetings and site investigations as required, and prepare meeting minutes/notes
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software or equivalent
Review utility relocation sketches against SCDOT and NCDOT Utilities Accommodation Manual
Occasional overnight travel may be required
Specific Requirements:
0-2 years of related experience or related field of study.
Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
Minimum Education is an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field
MicroStation experience and ProjectWise Experience is a plus
Experience with 3D tools like ORD and clash detection is a plus
Design Build & Alternative Delivery experience is a plus Candidates must hold a hold a valid state driver’s license and clean driving record andhave the ability to lift 50 pounds, traverse rough terrain, walk or stand for extended periods of time while performing manual tasks, and work outdoors during all types of weather. Candidates also must work nights and weekends when required.
Compensation Range:
