Inspector Job Description The Inspector will be responsible for overseeing two NYC Parks Department projects throughout the city. This role requires the management of both small and large contractors for the reconstruction of city sidewalks and tree health. Effective communication with clients and strong written and verbal skills are essential. The Resident Engineer will also review contract line items and provide oversight services including saw cutting, excavation, planting, concrete restoration, and ensuring punch list items are met. Responsibilities Visit multiple sites daily, potentially up to ten based on workflow. Manage contractors on the streets and in parks. Communicate effectively with the client. Review contract line items for accuracy and completeness. Receive site locations from the Project Manager via email. Meet with the Superintendent at job sites by 7 AM. Observe and coordinate contractor activities on site. Ensure adequate staffing and safety measures are in place. Collaborate with the Parks Department and contractors. Use and understand the specifications book. Ensure contractors adhere to safety protocols, including wearing PPE. Record and track measurements for contractor pay items. Work will be conducted at land level with no climbing or tree pruning required. Essential Skills Associate’s degree in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or related plant science field, or construction project management and/or civil engineering plus 2 years of related work experience. Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 months of experience, or 3+ years of relevant experience. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Possession of a vehicle for commuting to work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Proficiency in daily field reporting and construction oversight tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of plant species. Experience working for a landscaper for several years or summers. Work Environment The work environment involves working throughout the five boroughs of New York City, primarily tied to one borough, on Parks Department projects. The work schedule is from 7 AM to 3 PM. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.
