Job Description

  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality control support to the project team and direct personnel to implement quality requirements and to accurately status the results
  • Perform construction quality control inspection and surveillance activities in support of project and/or maintenance activities
  • Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed
  • Obtain safety training, obey safety rules. and make safety an integral part of each task
  • Take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition
  • Review design output documents in accordance with approved procedures in order to establish inspection requirements in quality assurance procedures, construction plans, and/or work packages
  • Coordinate with internal and external sources to resolve quality issues and provide status of the inspection/test activities for the work activity
  • Review technical criteria, personnel quali?cations and work sequence on work packages including the notation of hold points prior to performance of inspections
  • Perform or direct the quality inspection activities of subordinate QC engineers and other inspection personnel as assigned
  • Assist in resolution of code, speci?cations and drawing interpretations
  • Perform or supervise the performance of inspection, witness, test, surveillance, and documents the results of the inspection activities
  • Assess the completeness of construction activities and quality veri?cation documentation prior to preparation of quality control releases for turnover
  • Review subcontractor’s quality program for compliance to established procedures, attends mobilization meetings and monitors their activities for proper implementation
  • Review suppliers and/or subcontractor’s quality veri?cation documentation for traceability and speci?cation compliance
  • Review, assess and status subcontractors’ costs, manpower and materials
  • Approve subcontracts invoices and application for payment
  • Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. 
  • Required Qualifications/ Skills /
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and at least 5
  • 7 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas; or, Associate’s degree and 7
  • 9 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent; or, high school diploma and 10
  • 14 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent
  • Certi?cation with continuing technical training is required for performance of inspections and surveillance activities
  • Specialized training may also be required to support certain technical areas
  • Practical field experience in civil (soils, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, protective coatings) quality control inspections
  • Ability to develop, review, and implements inspection plans in accordance with technical documents, codes and standards
  • Competency in reviewing and issuing non-conformance reports and coordinating corrective actions
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to foster a collaborative and safety-oriented work environment
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties
  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are
  • Experience working under NQA-1 quality assurance programs at DOE facilities
  • Practical civil/structural ?eld experience within the last 12 months
