ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Interprets and explains building codes, land use regulations, flood zone regulations, and other ordinances to property owners, contractors, developers and individuals. Reviews plans for new construction for compliance with all relevant codes and approves same prior to issuance of a building permit. Inspects building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems for general quality of construction and compliance with all relevant codes. Conducts frequent visual surveys of the City for unauthorized construction and unlicensed business activity. Recommends to the administration changes in City policies and regulations when such is advisable. Assists in the organization and maintenance of accurate building inspection and business license records.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Bachelor’s of Arts or Sciences in Construction, Engineering or related field; Five (5) years of direct experience in the construction industry or closely related field and training in accordance with the International Building Code and the laws of the State of South Carolina; Or equivalent education and/or experience; and ICC certified Building Official, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical and Gas Inspector, Residential and Commercial Electrical Inspector, Residential and Commercial Building Inspector. Valid State of South Carolina Driver’s License.
Compensation:
Starting salary to mid-range- $60,029-$75036
Shift:
M-F 8am-4:30pm with every other
