DescriptionGAI Consultants, Inc. is looking for a transportationConstruction Technician with a WV Transportation EngineeringTechnician (TRET) level 3 or 4 to serve as inspectors to supporthighway/bridge projects throughout West Virginia. This positionwill primarily support WVDOH District 4 in Harrison County. Thesuccessful candidate will be eligible for a sign-on bonus. The Specific Duties of this position include: Verification that contractor’s work being performed is inaccordance with plans and contractual specifications. Perform calculations for contractor payment. Ability to read construction plans and documents. Good communication skills. Write daily technical reports General Characteristics Continues to develop advanced field operations skills; possessescomputer skills, good visual and hearing skills, followsprocedures; good organizational skills; working in weatherconditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); works with safety in mind,must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to100% during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/orwork, able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift andcarry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthyperiods. Minimum Years of Experience 6+ Education H.S Graduate Certification/Licensure Driver’s License Technical Responsibilities Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for fieldobservations on construction sites. Conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory toobtain data used by engineering and technical personnel indetermining physical properties of construction materials. Collect soil, asphalt and concrete samples, prepare samples fortesting, record data, and prepare summary report. Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results onprojects. Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribedprocedures, processes and standards. Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses,reports and / or technical drawings. Communication of field and laboratory testing results with staff,contractors, and clients Project and Task Management May lead projects and tasks Management Responsibility Can work independently or lead crews when necessary. Communication Skills Possesses effective oral and written communication skills;interacts well with other staff, communicates effectively withclients, field representatives, able to motivate others, ability tofunction positively in a team environment, able to keep teamsworking harmoniously.
