About our opportunity We are excited to hire for a full-time Commercial Building Inspector I to join our team within our Planning and Development Services Department. In this position, you will conduct complex, comprehensive inspections of commercial, residential, and industrial building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical components to ensure compliance with all applicable building codes and related codes and ordinances. Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 116 : $25.77 -$30.92 per hour. Salary is based on qualifications.

Conferences Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans and conducts inspections of commercial, residential, and industrial building construction to ensure compliance with ICC building, gas, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes. Ability to drive county vehicles is required to perform this required task. Reviews architectural drawings and specifications for code compliance. Maintains thorough and accurate records of inspections; meets with contractors and industry officials regarding inspection results; makes recommendations for changes as necessary to achieve compliance; follows up to verify corrections have been made to comply with codes. Explains interprets and provides guidance regarding applicable codes, processes, procedures and compliance requirements to contractors, engineers, architects, developers, property owners, and others. Assists with commercial, industrial, and residential plan reviews as needed. Keeps the Building Official and Deputy Building Official informed of inspection progress and any difficult or unusual situations. Maintains knowledge of current County, state, and federal codes and regulations related to building inspection. May issue violation notices and prepares cases for prosecution in the event of non-compliance; testifies in court as necessary. Performs related work as assigned. About you

Experience and Education:

High School Graduation or GED equivalent. Associates Degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred. One (1) year of construction related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

Valid state driver’s license. Must possess ICC certification as a Commercial Building Inspector, and one of the following certifications within one year of hire: Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, or Commercial Mechanical Inspector. South Carolina Building Codes Council registration as a Commercial Inspector. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered. Physical Demands / Work Environment /
