Description :

The purpose of this classification is to inspect work performed in water and sewer construction.

Duties and responsibilities include:

inspecting new water and sewer mains and lines for compliance, reviewing construction plans, and communicating with builders and contractors to ensure adherence to Town of Smyrna construction specifications. Under general supervision, reports to Assistant Director of Utilities and Utilities Operations Manager. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs inspections on new water and sewer mains as installed and enforces compliance with the adopted water and sewer regulations of the Town and the approved construction plans. Reviews construction plans prior to approval for conformance with water and sewer regulations. Tracks progress of construction plans through Town and State approval process. Completes records in a timely manner of all inspections done. Provides weekly inspection reports in excel spreadsheet format. Provides information for contractors and construction personnel concerning water and sewer ordinances, codes, and requirements. Attends pre-construction meetings with builders/developers prior to the commencement of new construction. Insures all documentation is properly filed. Performs final inspections before acceptance by the Town; completes punch list and follows through to completion. Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of laws/regulations pertaining to codes, zoning, and inspection activities, and of changes in municipal codes or ordinances; reads professional literature; attends classes, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate. Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to supervisor. Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment, when required. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and reports any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor. Promotes the teamwork environment and assists coworkers when necessary. Helps maintain the cleanliness of equipment, work area, and facility. Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer’s perception of the Town of Smyrna. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age Must have a High School diploma or GED Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Must possess a Grade II Distribution license Must possess a Grade II Collection License Must possess a fork truck certification Must possess and maintain Cross Connection certification Must have at least five (5) years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and emergency repair of water and wastewater lines Must have at least six (6) months experience performing construction inspections Or, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
