Position Summary:
Smith & Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced and results-driven Foreman to lead field crews on civil construction and site development projects. The Foreman plays a critical role in coordinating labor, equipment, and materials while ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications. This role requires strong leadership, field knowledge, and the ability to work hands-on with the crew while communicating effectively with superintendents and project managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily field operations for crews performing earthwork, grading, excavation, trenching, and utility installation (storm, sewer, water). Interpret and execute project plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure all work is completed to standards. Organize and assign tasks to crew members, monitor productivity, and adjust workflows as needed to meet project schedules. Coordinate with the superintendent regarding jobsite logistics, material needs, and subcontractor coordination. Monitor and enforce jobsite safety policies and procedures; lead daily toolbox talks and ensure crew compliance with OSHA standards. Provide hands-on support when needed to keep production moving, including operating equipment or assisting with labor tasks. Track labor hours, equipment usage, and material quantities daily and submit reports through field software (e.g., HCSS Field). Maintain a clean and orderly jobsite, ensuring proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
3-5+ years of experience in civil construction or site development, with at least 1-2 years in a crew leadership or foreman role. Strong knowledge of site work activities including excavation, utilities, grading, and erosion control. Ability to read and understand construction plans, survey stakes, and utility layouts. Proven ability to lead and motivate teams while maintaining productivity and safety standards. Basic understanding of digital reporting tools (e.g., HCSS Field, Procore, or similar platforms). Valid driver’s license required; reliable transportation to various job sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain Experience working with GPS layout equipment or machine control systems Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus CDL is a plus, but not required

Work Schedule:
