This position provides “hands-on” technical guidance and coordination of work assignments to crew members based on their skill level. This candidate is responsible for ensuring that all assigned work orders are completed according to East Point Power standards and procedures. This position reports directly to an Electrical Superintendent. Major Duties Organizes job labor and divides duties between crew members according to their ability and job knowledge; Supervises and assists crew members in assembling materials to be used on each job, and assures materials are loaded on vehicles; Supervises and assists crew members with installation of all electrical distribution and substation equipment; Ensures that all crew members perform the work according to APPA and EPA safety rules and regulations. Trains, instructs and assists an assigned electrical crew in electrical distribution work including: Both underground and overhead Line repairs requiring the use of electrical tools and equipment including bucket and line trucks, backhoes, trenchers ,and heavy equipment; Identifies wire sizes and capacity angles, proper materials, and recognizes voltages and their proper applications; Responds to major power outages and other issues when needed; or called upon by other electrical personnel; Reads and interprets and explains job blueprints, specification manuals, feeder book prints, etc. Assigns daily work activities according to skill level and provides crew management by adjusting labor assignments as needed. Completes all paperwork required for the job including job orders, material requests, overtime, incident, and Foreman’s reports. Ensures that all maintenance equipment is done according to the manufacturer specifications. Calibrates and adjusts hydraulic compression tools to ensure proper operation. Assures that employees keep a safe and orderly worksite. Monitors the worksite for safety hazards or violation of safety procedures. Calculates the load on electrical apparatus for proper line installation. Supervises and assists crew members with installation of all electrical distribution and substation equipment. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience. Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible experience in electrical distribution to include at least 3 years at the First-Class Line worker level or equivalent experience. Valid Class A Georgia Commercial Driver’s license and Traffic flagging License from Georgia Department of Transportation Safety Council. Knowledge Required by the Position Knowledge of basic mathematical and accounting procedures Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and ability to install all related parts. Knowledge of substation equipment and its applications. Knowledge of all APPA and EPA hazardous material handling safety rules and regulations. Ability to operate all equipment used by East Point Power, including all vehicles and heavy equipment. Ability to supervise subordinates and ensure compliance with all work and safety procedures. Ability to complete jobs without blueprints and specifications. Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and make immediate adjustments.
Supervisory Controls:
The Electrical Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The work is spot-checked while in progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions and established procedures and accuracy.
Guidelines :
Guidelines include the National Electric Code, the National Electrical Safety Code, City codes, the Southern Building Code, Electric Cities safety regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but require some interpretation in application.
Complexity :
The work consists of related duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, substations, wires and cables. The work is made difficult by extreme weather conditions and working with energized conductors.
