Job Description

Foreman – Hardscapes Palmetto Tractor Services North Charleston, SC 29405 Job description The Foreman position involves management, administrative, supervisory, and operational responsibilities in managing day-to-day operations, installation, repair, and replacement activities for a range of site work activities. This position sets project goals and is expected to direct and assist other employees in their daily tasks and activities. Specifically, this position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance for projects involving minor grading, hardscape (pavers, site concrete, site masonry, etc.), including but not limited to: erosion control bmp assessment and installations, clearing and grubbing, site grading and excavation, subgrade preparation, subbase installation, concrete paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, other concrete foundations, site stabilization, and other areas ancillary to company operations. This position could assume some or all the duties of another position in the absence of that position. You are expected to work independently and resolve most of the conflicts which arise. It is essential you keep other field supervisors/foremen aligned with required progress, production and schedules. You should provide recommendations, solutions, and actions necessary to resolve problems or other potentially controversial matters.

The Foreman/Superintendent works under the direction of the General Superintendent and or Vice President of Field Operations

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Management:

    Provide supervision of a crew in connection with the superintendent of the actual physical construction of the project(s) in strict accordance with the contract documents. Ensure crew members deliver high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule and budget. Plan and review the project work with all crew members working on projects under your supervision. Take the lead on job site layout, material, and personnel coordination. Assist the superintendent in preparation of 2 week look ahead work schedules and keeping them updated. Schedule and ensure the delivery of materials and equipment for their timely on-site delivery. Coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of subcontractors and suppliers. Coordinate the work onsite with the activities of inspection agencies as necessary. Keep the superintendent informed as to changes made in the field, so that such changes may be covered by general contract change orders and subcontract change orders. Ensure the maintenance of satisfactory relationships with owners and subcontractors. Mentor promising employees/develop future leaders utilizing strict protocol. Ensure subordinates perform per the published Job Description and perform employee review in keeping with the corporate policy.

      Administrative:

      Lead teams and provide direction to daily job activities. Ensure daily logs are being updated.

        Machinery Operation:

        Operate all heavy equipment like excavators, front-end loaders, etc. Ensure and manage the machines or equipment in a safe and secure way. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform minor repair works during functioning problems and advise supervisor when machines need major attention.

          Safety:

          Maintain an environment and lead crews to avoid injury or property damage. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform pre-task safety talks and briefings. Wear proper PPE for the job and ensure other employees are following suit.

            Technical:

            Establish accurate elevations for work being installed/graded/excavated. Perform general layout for work installations. Read and interpret plans to install materials as dictated by the contract documents. Properly spread and level dirt/stone/gravel to meet compaction requirements.

            GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
            • Lead and take charge of the work to ensure work is being efficiently performed.
            • Adapt to changing work conditions/situations to ensure the workday is efficient. This includes leading other employees to do the same.
            • Plan to ensure the correct equipment, materials, and needed labor are requested and present.
            • Plan ahead to identify potential issues and conflicts in work schedules, drawings, and other trades.
            • Supervise and communicate both verbally and written.
            • Efficiently communicate via electronic communication and tools.
            Includes but not limited to:

            email, web based programs for tracking and reporting, and other basic computer skills.

            • Plan and execute assignments as outlined with the general superintendent or project manager to maintain positive production each week.
            • -Lead by example, help others build their knowledge base, and help motivate individuals to get the job done accurately and efficiently.
            • Demonstrate informative and professional assistance when working with vendors, customers and co-workers.
            • Maintain initiative to meet and exceed the project construction schedule.
            • Sustain interpersonal relationships, which encourage openness, truthfulness and confidence, both internally and externally.
