GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs a broad range of structural, facility and grounds maintenance duties relevant to the construction, general repair and maintenance of assigned county property, structures and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Performs construction, maintenance and repairs (i.e., painting, masonry, carpentry, grounds maintenance, plumbing, electrical, mechanical) on structures, facilities, equipment and other county property.
- Reads blueprints, diagrams and sketches.
- Performs calculations (i.e., mixing proportions, measuring angles and distances, calculating square footage).
- Installs metal roofing.
- Operates hand-held manual, electrical and gas powered tools and equipment (i.e., shovels, mixers, sprayers, drills, hammers); operates various types of light equipment (front loader, mini-skid loader, light dump truck).
- Prepares and installs all playground surfacing, including concrete and rubber material.
- Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of equipment, tools and vehicles.
- Performs record maintenance duties, (i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs, fuel logs).
- Identifies and reports any detected deterioration, repair needs and maintenance needs to supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years of construction experience that provides the ability to perform skilled to semi-skilled tasks in the trade, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and sketches. Licenses and/or

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas powered equipment and tools, where excellent eye/hand/foot coordination is essential for safe and productive operations. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing/walking. Requires the ability to work on scaffolding, climb ladders and/or work in confined spaces. Requires excellent equilibrium to prevent falling from narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work;

Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions.
