TOWN OF OGUNQUIT

– Full Time Laborer The Town of Ogunquit, “Beautiful Place by the Sea,” is seeking applicants for a full-year Laborer. The Laborer performs a variety of maintenance tasks keeping all Town owned buildings and properties, including sidewalks, driveways, and recreational areas neat, clean, and safe at all times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Regulates heat air conditioning and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic hardware is working properly during the hours of building occupancy Sweeps, vacuums, dusts, mops, and polishes floors, carpets, and furniture daily to ensure a clean work environment. Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fixtures daily or as directed; maintain soap and paper dispensers. Cleans hallways and auditorium daily or more frequently when the condition is warranted Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently, if necessary. Keeps the beaches, and grounds free from rubbish. Makes minor building repairs, as directed by the Public Works Director, or designee Reports major repair needs to the Public Works Director Reports immediately, to the Public Works Director, any damage to Town property Conducts ongoing general maintenance, upkeep, and repair Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Public Works Director, or designee Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste Must get along with others and work in a professional manner Maintains regular, predictable, and reliable attendance Maintains excellent communication and fosters a collaborative working environment with all departments as well as with the public Maintains cleanliness and safety in the shop and breakroom Place an emphasis on safety, efficiency, quality and productivity Follows all Town and Department policies Performs related work as required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of the functions and operational methods of light equipment, tools, cleaning products Ability to thoroughly clean all assigned areas Knowledge of standard practices, procedures, and related safety regulations Skill in the use and care of landscaping tools and equipment Working knowledge of the practical use of various carpentry and masonry tools Knowledge of field safety

ABILITY TO

Operate and use equipment independently with or without supervision Understand and follow oral and written instructions Maintain records Use independent judgment, problem solve and collaborate in order to accomplish tasks Make timely and appropriate decisions in the scope of assigned work Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers Communicate professionally and effectively Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public Successfully complete any required or recommended training

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education/Training:

High School diploma or equivalent Two (2) years’ experience operating light equipment and tools in construction and maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Licenses/Certifications:

Current valid State driver’s license with a clean driving record

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to various types of extreme weather conditions and temperatures, such as heat, cold, snow, and/or rain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including chemicals, pesticides, and dust particles, pollen, and other airborne allergens. Employee is frequently exposed to vibration and moving mechanical parts and equipment. The noise level is usually moderate to loud. Personal Protective Equipment is provided. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be physically able to operate a variety of vehicles and equipment, including, but not limited to lawn mowers, small tractors, and many construction tools (chain saw, lawn mower, grass trimmer, etc.). Vision and hearing adequate to perform the essential function of the job are required. Moderate to heavy physical effort under adverse field conditions is required involving long periods of sitting, standing/moving, climbing, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling, occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects up to 50lbs.
