Job Description

  • Summary:

     

  • Installs and maintains water services, meters, and meter boxes; lays, yarns, caulks and fits pipe, fittings, valves and fire hydrants; maintains sanitary sewer installations. 
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Installs and maintains water services, meters and meter boxes, and sanitary sewer lines.
  • Lays, yarns, caulks and fits pipe, fittings, valves and fire hydrants
  • Checks pipes and fittings before/after installation for defects and inventories tools and equipment
  • Prepares copper pipe for soldering and lead pipe for wiring, and cuts and measures pipe necessary for tie-ins, repairs, etc
  • Applies and/or repairs sleeves, emergency clamp-tap sleeves, split sleeves, etc
  • Assists making taps under pressure
  • Lifts, raises and moves heavy objects such as pipe, fittings, valves, etc
  • Adheres to all safety rules and practices
  • Operates division vehicle/radio and various equipment such as valves, curb stops, pumps, air tools, small trenching machine, etc
  • Repairs sanitary sewer lines and unstops sewer lines
  • Operates dump trucks and sewer cleaning truck.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED).
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate (verbally) in a clear and concise manner with work associates and the general public. 
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and knowledge and application of units of measure. 
  • REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electric utility installations. 
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver’s license from the State of Mississippi.
