General Construction Laborer Express Employment Professionals (North Greensboro Territory) Greensboro, NC 27410 Summary/Objective The Carpenter’s Helper performs tasks involving physical labor at all projects and will support the Lead Carpenter, Carpenter, and the Project Manager. In this role, the Carpenter’s Helper may perform general carpentry tasks as well as other basic remodeling tasks including, but not limited to, painting and finishing, clean up, and other basic carpentry tasks. Know and understand all plans and specifications for the assigned job and immediately get answers to questions when plans and specifications are unclear. 2. Complete all work, as directed by the Lead Carpenter, Carpenter, and/or the Project Manager related to carpentry and other work generally done by this company such as:
- Framing
- Exterior trim
- Installation of windows and doors
- Installation of siding of all varieties
- Installation of interior doors
- Installation of interior trim of all varieties
- Installation of cabinets
- Installation of and hookup appliances 3.
Have knowledge of basic residential carpentry tools and equipment as well as the ability to learn to utilize all tools of the trade that are required for proper installation of the above-mentioned tasks. 4. Ability to accurately measure and cut wood as instructed by the Lead Carpenter or Carpenter.
Maintains a clean job site:
picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards and ensure subcontractors clean up after themselves daily. 6. Facilitate pick up of accurate materials as directed by the Lead Carpenter or Carpenter to ensure that trips to pick up additional material during the project are minimized. 7. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed as directed by the Lead Carpenter, Carpenter or Project Manager in accordance with Federal and State regulations Competencies 1. Customer satisfaction focus Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Demonstrated ability to work independently as needed Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time, and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints, or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience High School diploma, GED or equivalent 1+ years of experience as a general laborer 1+ years of carpentry experience in the home improvement or construction industry Preferred Education and Experience Coursework in Carpentry at a trade school or community college. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
