The Construction Laborer will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina and the position is non-exempt.
Responsibilities:
The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at underground utility construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other skilled workers at the site and company yard.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in underground utility construction projects; performs manual work in preparing the site for the contracted scope of work. Shovels dirt, concrete, asphalt, and various other construction materials into construction areas. Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.
Maintains a clean job site:
picks up and delivers all tools and equipment and secures the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards. Performs materials handling and storage. Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director, or supervisor. Assist pipe layer, equipment operator, and foreman as needed. Traffic control flagging as needed.
Education and Experience:
Education :
High school diploma or GED.
Experience :
Two years of experience (preferred).
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions. Work may be performed in confined spaces. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. Lifting and carrying 10 up to 60 pounds frequently is required. Lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally. Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent. Standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and reaching a majority of the time. Work may include manual labor up to and including hand digging. Some Saturday work is required. Sundays are rarely needed.
