Job Summary
INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the water and wastewater system. This position is assigned to pay grade G13. Essential Job Functions Trains, directs, and supervises the work of assigned personnel.
Installs and repairs water and wastewater lines and mains.
Repairs water leaks.
Supervises personnel when crew foreman is absent.
Assist crew foreman by training and directing new personnel.
Responds to emergency situations.
Completes work to minimize the impact of CFPUA’s water and sewer on the environment and the public.
Establishes safe work zones, including conducting job hazard assessments, developing strategies to minimize risks, following OSHA Guidelines, reporting safety issues, and using proper PPE.
Sets up traffic control and directs traffic according to NCDOT and MUTCD guidelines.
Follows NC811 guidelines to understand underground utility hazards and dig safely.
Works rotating after hours standby shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Proficient in operation of excavating equipment such as backhoes and tracked excavators.
Transports excavator and heavy equipment in accordance with NC Class A CDL requirements.
Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
Installs blow-offs and flushing stations.
Installs water meters; replaces meter boxes and lids.
Turns water service on and off.
Maintains right-of-ways.
Performs cleaning of blocked sewer lines, laterals, valves, clean outs, and manholes if needed.
Repairs/replaces concrete sidewalks landscaping, cleaning and maintain the right-of-way around project work area.
Coordinates with property owners to manage private improvements within work zones.
Responds to inquiries from customers, property owners, and members of the public regarding construction activities.
Attends safety training.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment and inventory on vehicles.
Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.
Understands use and application of various parts and materials to determine what items are necessary for various construction and repair projects.
Operates job related tools and equipment.
Makes recommendations to update system GIS mapping.
Makes recommendations that impact the budget. Proficient in operation of excavating equipment such as backhoes and tracked excavators. Performs other related job duties as assigned. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements Education, Experience, and Other Requirements High school diploma or GED.
Three (3) years of construction work experience or any related work field.
Grade 1 Collections or C Distributions license preferred but not required.
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s license is required. Possession of a valid North Carolina CDL Class A is preferred. Must obtain a valid NC CDL Class A within 6 months of date of hire
Possession of or ability to readily obtain Trenching and Shoring certification.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain ATSSA Flagger certification.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain Asbestos Hazard Management certification.
