Job Description
Chenango County’s Department of Public Works has an opening for a Laborer (Monday-Friday). Positions withthis job title are in the Chenango County Department of Public Works and in various Towns and Villages throughoutChenango County. Employees in this class perform a variety of routine manual tasks many of which require physicalendurance and a willingness to perform arduous work. The work involves the performance of road, bridge, water andsewer line maintenance and construction activities and may involve the performance of recycling and garbage transferfunctions. Incumbents perform their duties in inclement weather conditions and in a variety of hot and coldtemperatures, and are required to work additional hours when needed to assist with snow and ice removal activities orto perform emergency storm damage cleanup activities, or emergency water or sewer repair activities. This worknormally involves operating the wing of a snow plow, operating small plows or a skid loader to move snow and ice,shoveling paths, walkways and bridges, cutting and removing trees from roadways, removing rocks, dirt and debrisfrom roads, culverts and sluices, and other related activities, or repairing broken water or sewer lines. Duties ofincumbents in this job title will vary by municipality.

Special Requirements:
The position has a 40 hour work week and 2025 starting pay rate is $19.47 per hour and includes afull benefits package.
