Job Description
Construction Laborer and Operators New Frontier Excavating and Paving, Inc. Boston, NY 14025 Overview New Frontier Excavating and Paving is a general contractor that focuses on underground utility installation as well as highway reconstruction and resurfacing. We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Construction Laborers. In this role, you will be an essential part of our construction projects, assisting skilled tradespeople and ensuring that work sites are safe, organized, and efficient. This position is ideal for those who enjoy working outdoors and are looking for a physically demanding job that contributes to the successful completion of construction projects. Laborer Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following :
Site Preparation:
Clearing construction sites of debris, rocks, and other obstructions to create a safe working environment.
Material Handling:
Loading, unloading, and transporting construction materials, tools, and equipment to designated locations on-site.
Excavation and Digging:
Operating hand tools for pot holing and digging trenches to locate and identify underground utilities
General Maintenance:
Keeping construction sites clean, organized, and adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Using basic machinery such as jackhammers, chop saws, or drills as required for specific tasks.
- Assist and direct the operating engineer to ensure the safety of existing utilities and the job site
- Place and set underground utilities as required
- Clean road surfaces, apply tack coat and rake blacktop
- Work zone traffic control as required
Following Instructions:
Carrying out tasks according to instructions from supervisors or site foremen.
- Conduct regular safety checks and hazard assessments of the job site and tools. Report to the supervisor as identified
- Ability to concentrate and not be distracted on the job site
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to work overtime if required Skills and Qualifications A Laborer must possess a mix of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and physical stamina. Below are the key skills and qualifications required for the role: Technical & Physical Skills
- Excellent physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks such as lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach out
- Ability to use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired
- Awareness of and Commitment to use proper lifting techniques
- Ability to react quickly using the hands, fingers and feet
- Ability to determine the distance between objects
- Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away
- Ability to enter and exit a trench 3 ½ feet deep unassisted
- Ability to enter and exit a trench > 3 ½ feet via a ladder or with assistance
- Good coordination and dexterity for handling tools and machinery safely.
- Basic understanding of construction techniques and materials.
- Experience with hand tools and equipment commonly used in construction work (shovel, rake, saw, drill, etc).
- Knowledge of workplace safety protocols and procedures.
- Reliability and punctuality to maintain project schedules and deadlines.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with coworkers.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing tasks on-site.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Ability to understand written and spoken information in English
- Ability to notice when something is wrong, or about to go wrong and say something
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members, inspectors, and supervisors. Heavy Equipment Operator Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following :
- Operate and control heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, road saws, etc
- Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment
- Follow all safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Ensure the safe and efficient use of machinery by adhering to operational protocols.
- Work closely with mechanic to repair or replace malfunctioning components.
- Conduct regular safety checks and hazard assessments on equipment and tools.
- Complete necessary documentation, including maintenance logs and compliance reports.
- Work with project managers, engineers, and other specialists to ensure project goals are met.
- Provide operational insights during planning and execution phases.
- Ability to concentrate and not be distracted while operating machinery
- Other duties as assigned

- Strong documentation skills to maintain accurate records of operations and maintenance. Physical Skills
- Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy objects and endure long hours of operation.
- Ability to sit or stand for long period of time
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach out
- Ability to use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired
- Ability to hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm
- Ability to react quickly using the hands, fingers and feet
- Ability to determine the distance between objects
- Ability to adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects
- Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience laboring or operating heavy equipment is preferred
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- OSHA 10 Hour for Construction required
- Dig Safe NY 811 Certified Excavator training is required (4 hour course is available online for $25. Must be 811 for upstate NY)
- CDL a plus / not required
- Must have reliable transportation
