Driver’s License Concrete forming Non-CDL Class C Class D Entry level Full Job Description This position is responsible for assisting with all duties associated in maintaining the Borough’s roadways, sewer system, and other municipal facilities. The position reports to the Department of Public Works Foreman. Lawn Care and Landscaping
- Performs landscaping maintenance activities, including grass mowing, fertilization, plant installation, watering, weeding, and tree trimming.
- Operates leaf vac to remove leaves from Borough-owned properties. Storm and Sanitary Sewers and Stormwater Management
- Cleans and repairs catch basins, culverts, retaining walls and other drainage structures.
- Cleans and makes simple repairs to the combined storm/sanitary system. Road Repair and Maintenance
- Performs snow and ice removal operations during winter snow events on roads and Borough-owned parking lots and walkways.
- Makes repairs to roadways including filling in potholes.
- Installs and removes signs, signposts, and pavement markings including painting curbs.
- Operates the street sweeper to clean the roadways. General Duties
- Performs a variety of physical and mental tasks associated with the maintenance, repair, and construction of Borough assets including DPW tools and equipment, municipal buildings, parks and recreation areas.
- Operates small to complex power tools, and vehicles to transport equipment to job site.
- Follows proper safety procedures to avoid serious or severe injuries and uses appropriate traffic safety devices such as cones, arrow boards and flagging signs.
- Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and materials.
- Assists with finishing concrete, asphalt, setting forms and light carpentry work.
- May train to operate and assist in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment such as backhoe, lawn equipment, and dump truck.
- Empties garbage at all public parks and from Borough-owned trash cans.
- Performs handyman activities as requested, such as painting, installing small pieces of equipment, making minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
- Attends meetings and trainings as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate light- or medium-weight trucks.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
- One year or more of Public Works experience preferred.
