Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). ASED has been a primary contractor for NASA since 1989 and supports marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System, International Space Station, space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences and advanced propulsion system development. The ESSCA Programs & Projects and Advanced Concepts Department (JP) has an SLS SE&I and Human Exploration Team Lead position available. The existing team is primarily high performing senior level engineers and subject matter experts (SMEs) supporting the SLS Program Office (XP) and the Human Exploration Development and Operations (HEDO) Office (HP) with specific support to XP02 (Program Operations and Strategic Communication), XP04 (Systems Engineering and Integration, HP10 (Exploration and Transportation Development). The team is comprised of Amentum, teammate and specialty subcontract personnel supporting on site at MSFC, KSC and fully remote from five states.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead a strong and high performing team to succeed in delighting the government customer and ASED management.
- Provide oversight of individual and team technical performance and confirm the technical quality of the work products generated by ASED personnel.
- Provide technical area supervision to include assigning and balancing team skills to various task orders to meet customer and ASED management expectations.
- Collaborate with the Department Manager/Deputy Department Manager to assign and develop personnel for subtask efforts and to broaden and develop personnel skills.
- Conduct task/subtask resource allocation, tracking, and control including forecasting future resource/skills/development needs.
- Identify and manage cost/technical/schedule risks to ensure accomplishment of Task Order requirements, ESSCA goals and objectives, and the ASED annual business plan.
- Implement the ESSCA safety program for the team, and lead by example in our safety culture. Engage in and conduct the shared MSFC and ASED safety duties of performing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Personnel Protective Equipment (PPEs) assessments and conducting Safety Meetings and Safety Visits.
- Perform hiring functions to meet team support requirements: define position requirements; conduct candidate recruiting; lead interviewing and selection and perform on-boarding activities.
- Develop employee goals and objectives and conduct performance evaluations. Support disciplinary processes with team personnel if needed.
- Train and develop team personnel thru on-the-job training, strategic technical assignments, peer-to-peer training, classes, etc.
- Utilize the Individual Development Plan (IDP) tool for employee career development.
- Utilize the ASED and customer awards and recognition programs to acknowledge team performance and drive team morale.
- Review and approve employee travel and training needs and requests and associated expense reports.
- Establish and oversee specialty subcontracting requirements in collaboration with the ASED Business and Finance Office (BFO) to include coordination of task assignments and performance. Develop subcontractor Statements of Work (SOW) and manage subcontractors.
- Support the Department Manager/Deputy Department Manager in preparing Operations Review material. Provide biweekly status of team significant accomplishments, kudos, process improvements, and cost savings.
- Ensure that tasks and subtasks are written and estimated correctly and that task and subtask technical, schedule and financial performance meet expectations.
Team Leads will provide support to ESSCA contract operations in the areas of: - Ensure excellent customer relations and harmonious team dynamics and operations through excellent conflict resolution.
- Ensure effective customer communication. Conduct Customer Expectation Surveys, Customer Communication Meetings, and End-of-Evaluation Period Task Order Performance Presentation/Self-Assessments.
- Facilitate excellent coordination/communication/collaboration with other Team Leads, ASED management, Teammate Principals, ESSCA Technical Fellows, BFO and HR.
- Support ASED leadership communication, sharing, and development of best practices for MSFC and across ESSCA.
- Actively work with ASED and MSFC personnel to explore new work areas and develop new task scope.
- Lead and supervise personnel in the technical accomplishment of task orders.
- Drive employee awareness and commitment to personal safety, mission success and client satisfaction.
- Notify ASED management and appropriate Teammate Principal of activities that could require disciplinary and/or safety actions.
- Ensure the technical quality of the work products generated by team personnel.
- Establish and implement processes in the ASED Quality System. Ensure products are delivered on time in accordance with subtask schedules and customer expectations.
- Coordinate subcontractor task assignment and performance.
- Strategically assign personnel to broaden and develop their skills and provide points of contact for each Task Order or Subtask.
- Leverage broad experience/familiarity to effectively apply the technologies and tools used in technical discipline.
- Conduct special projects as assigned by Department Manager or Office of Program Manager.
Qualifications:
MUST BE CURRENTLY ON ESSCA CONTRACT. THIS POSITION IS ON SITE AT MSFC.
- A STEM degree or a degree in a related field is required. Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 14 years of experience; MS with at least 18 years of experience; or a BS with at least 20 years of experience.
- Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to communicate and interact with customers and organizations at a program/project level is highly desired.
- Previous team leadership experience in a technical or program/project area is highly desired.
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, technical management and systems/engineering management is highly desired in such aerospace disciplines as:
