Job Summary:
Join our growing team and support our mission to become a global leader in manufacturing innovation! We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager / Facilities Director with a strong background in managing large-scale, new build construction projects within the defense industry. This position will collaborate with the Architect and Engineering and the General Contracting firms to oversee and direct the performance of all field construction activities typically with a value $200M+. The ideal candidate will be the single point responsible for overseeing all phases of a project to include the planning, execution, and completion of facility/manufacturing building construction projects, ensuring they meet code and regulatory requirements and industry quality and safety standards; are within budget, and completed on time. This role requires a deep understanding of defense-related construction requirements, including security protocols, safety standards for energetics/explosives, compliance with government regulations, and coordination with multiple stakeholders, including military personnel, Dept of Defense, and municipality, city, and/or state government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Coordination:
Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation. Select, Collaborate and Coordinate with A&E firms, General Contractor, engineers, teammates, and subcontractors to support project. Ensure project requirements and deliverables are clearly understood and met. Manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time project completion. May manage site Facilities organization upon completion of project. Subcontract Management Coordinate with the supply chain organization by defining requirements and developing statements of work. Work collaboratively with supply chain organization to select GC and A&E firms, subcontractors “Subs”, etc. Oversee Subs work performance, schedule, and cost.
Budget Management:
Prepare and manage project budgets, including cost estimates, procurement, and financial reporting. Monitor project expenses and implement cost-control measures to ensure projects stay within budget.
Safety Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Ensure all construction activities comply with federal, state, and local codes, EHS regulations, as well as defense industry standards. Implement EHS and Quality assurance procedures and practices to ensure construction meets design specifications and safety standards, including all explosives related standards. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to safety requirements, security protocols, and quality standards.
Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, military personnel, government agencies, and other key stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project status, including progress reports, risk assessments, and issue resolution. Facilitate communication between all parties to ensure smooth project execution.
Risk Management:
Selection of qualified subs for work performance, including site safety plan, planning for environmental permits, and site security. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and budgets. Address any issues that arise during construction, including conflicts, delays, and unforeseen challenges.
Team Leadership:
Lead and motivate a multidisciplinary project team, including engineers, GC, subs, and administrative staff. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the project team.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in construction project management / Facilities management with relevant construction experience. At least 5 years in the defense industry. Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale, high-security construction projects, that may include new construction build of a chemical manufacturing plant. In-depth knowledge of defense industry regulations, security protocols, and construction standards. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Act with integrity and work collaboratively in all facets of the projects. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and other relevant tools. Security clearance or eligibility to obtain one is required. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree or PMP certification. GC license and/or training.
