Job Description

Construction Coordinator 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 401 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33401 Under limited direction, inspects and observes construction public and private projects within City owned rights-of-ways, easements and other City owned projects; ensures compliance with approved construction plans and specifications on projects including set up and maintenance of MOT plans, repair/removal/construction/alterations of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, sanitary sewers, potable water lines and services, storm drains, catch basins, and related structures; maintains project records including quantity verification for pay requests; prepares reports on projects inspected; coordinates projects with various City staff, private engineers, and representatives of other government entities and utility providers; conducts final walk through of projects; review as-builts drawings for accuracy; and performs other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Inspects utility construction projects to ensure the project meets construction guidelines and conforms to city standards and specifications. 2. Inspects all phases of public construction projects, including but not limited to, trenching, pipe installation, manholes, water or sewer services, fire lines and hydrants, pump stations, aerial and subaqueous crossings, air release units and structures, roadways, sidewalks, landscapes, jack, base installations, building, landscaping, etc. 3. Oversees work of contractors to ensure work meets contract specifications. 4. Coordinates projects with private engineers, City engineers, City maintenance personnel, utility representatives and other government entities (County, FDOT, South Florida Water Management, etc.) 5. Maintains records of ongoing construction for as-built references, pay request approval and plan verification. 6. Makes field adjustments and redesign decisions to resolve problems or conflicts and authorizes change orders regarding it. 7. Assumes administrative control for project budgets. 8. Attends pre-construction meetings with City design engineers to review plans for utility projects. 9. Conducts tests of water and sanitary sewer systems to determine acceptability and compliance with design specifications. 10. Conducts final walk-through of construction projects. 11. Responds to questions, concerns and complaints regarding utility construction projects. 12. Reviews and comments on design plans and specifications prior to bid. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary Depending on qualifications the starting salary for this position will be in the range of (Pay Grade 59): Minimum $29.66 Excellent Benefits! Qualifications Associates degree with a major in Business or Construction Administration (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and two (2) years of municipal project construction experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A Water Distribution License Level 1, Certificates in MOT, Stormwater Inspector, and Wastewater training is highly desirable. A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment. Alternate qualifications High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in municipal project construction. Education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below; or, Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related degree and one year experience. Education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below. A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

Special Driving Requirements:

Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, orhave been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations. Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

Education Requirements:

To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements. State of Emergency:
