Position Description We are seeking an experienced Underground Utility Superintendent to lead the day-to-day field operations of underground utility construction projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of utility installation, including water, sewer, gas, and electric, and a strong background in supervising crews and ensuring project safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsibilities Manage and supervise the daily operations of underground utility crews, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. Coordinate with the project manager, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure seamless workflow and efficient use of resources. Monitor field activities and enforce safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Inspect work areas and equipment for hazards and take corrective actions when necessary. Maintain project documentation, including daily reports, timesheets, and material usage. Lead on-site problem-solving efforts and implement necessary adjustments to project schedules or work processes. Oversee the layout and installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical systems. Communicate project progress and challenges to the project manager and provide updates on crew performance. Ensure that all materials and equipment are available and functioning to keep the project moving efficiently. Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks with crews to promote safe work practices. Position Requirements Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and fostering a culture where safety and well-being are the top priorities for all employees. Minimum of 5 + years of experience in underground utility construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of underground utility installation processes, including trenching, pipe laying, and backfilling. Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and specifications. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage crews effectively and work collaboratively with other project teams. Strong understanding of job site safety requirements and OSHA standards. Proficiency in scheduling and coordinating resources, including labor, equipment, and materials. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments. OSHA 30-hour certification.
