Data Center Construction Superintendent Samuel Knight International Limited Farmville, NC 27828 J ob Summary The Data Center Construction Site Superintendent is responsible for the overall on-site management and execution of data center construction projects. This role requires a highly experienced and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in large-scale commercial construction, specifically in mission-critical environments. The Superintendent will oversee all phases of construction, from planning and mobilization to completion and commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. A deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and critical power systems unique to data centers is essential.
Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Oversight:
Direct and supervise all on-site construction activities, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection trades. Serve as the primary point of contact for daily on-site operations, managing subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams. Lead daily/weekly site meetings, including safety briefings, progress updates, and coordination meetings. Maintain a strong working relationship with the client, project managers, engineers, and architects.
Safety Management:
Implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs and protocols in accordance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and client-specific requirements. Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure all personnel adhere to safety standards and proper PPE usage. Investigate and report all incidents, accidents, or near misses.
Schedule & Progress Management:
Develop, monitor, and update detailed project schedules (e.g., using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project). Proactively identify potential delays, conflicts, or issues and implement corrective actions. Coordinate and sequence all trades and activities to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to the project timeline. Prepare daily and weekly progress reports for the Project Manager.
Quality Control:
Ensure all work is performed in strict accordance with project plans, specifications, building codes, and quality standards. Conduct regular quality inspections and walkthroughs, identifying and addressing deficiencies promptly. Oversee the punch list process through to completion. Understand and manage the critical commissioning process for data center infrastructure.
Cost Management:
Monitor project costs and ensure adherence to the budget. Identify and track potential cost overruns and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or schedule. Approve time cards, field purchases, and subcontractor payment applications.
Site Logistics & Resource Management:
Manage site layout, temporary facilities, material handling, and equipment allocation. Ensure adequate resources (labor, equipment, materials) are available to meet project demands. Manage and coordinate all deliveries and laydown areas.
Documentation & Communication:
Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including daily logs, progress photos, inspection reports, RFI logs, submittal logs, and meeting minutes. Communicate effectively and professionally with all project stakeholders. Resolve field conflicts and disputes efficiently.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in commercial construction, with at least 5 years specifically as a Superintendent on large-scale data center, mission-critical, or complex industrial projects. Proven experience managing projects valued at $50M+ (or similar scale).
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), fire protection, and building automation systems critical to data centers. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project), construction management platforms (e.g., Procore, CMiC), and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
Certifications:
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required. First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills. Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure. High level of organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with LEED certification processes or other sustainable construction practices. Familiarity with commissioning (Cx) processes for critical facilities. Advanced safety certifications (e.g., CHST). Experience with prefabrication and modular construction methods. Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods on active construction sites. Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments typical of a construction site. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, and steel-toed boots.

$120,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year
