Summary of Responsibilities Location:
Hilton Head Island, SC Reports to: CEO The Director of Construction is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all residential construction projects from design handoff through completion. This role ensures that every project meets or exceeds quality standards, adheres to schedule and budget targets, and achieves HHI Builders’ gross profit goals. The Director leads a team of Project Managers, collaborates with Project Directors, oversees subcontractor relationships, and ensures operational excellence across job sites. They are also a key contributor to company strategy, process improvements, and executive-level decision-making. Essential Functions Project Oversight & Execution Oversee and ensure successful execution of all concurrent residential construction projects (averaging $250K-$300K per project). Verify construction plans and estimates before build contracts are finalized. Conduct regular site visits to monitor build quality, enforce SOPs, and uphold jobsite standards. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of Project Managers and Directors through weekly meetings and quarterly performance reviews. Recruit, onboard, and train new construction team members aligned with HHI’s culture and standards. Financial & Operational Management Own accountability for ensuring all projects meet or exceed gross profit targets. Review project EVAs and compile WIP reports monthly to evaluate project health. Oversee punch list completion and manage the Punch List Administrator to ensure timely closeouts. Permitting & Compliance Obtain necessary permits and stay current on building codes, inspections, and regulatory requirements specific to Hilton Head Island and surrounding jurisdictions. Subcontractor & Materials Management Proactively resolve subcontractor issues and maintain strong trade partner relationships. Oversee product and materials procurement, permitting, and delivery timelines to avoid delays. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Act as a hands-on, client-facing leader who builds trust and resolves concerns before they escalate. Participate in leadership meetings and help shape strategic company decisions. Process Improvement Lead post-project reviews (post-mortems) to identify operational gaps and drive continuous improvement across the department. Ensure strict adherence to company systems, documentation standards, and job logs Education, Experience, and Skills Required 10+ years in residential construction, including luxury/custom home projects. 5+ years managing multiple job sites and construction teams. Prior experience in a leadership or executive construction role. Familiarity with Hilton Head Island or the surrounding SC/GA areas is highly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field (preferred). Proficiency in JobTread, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Procore, BuildPro, and Microsoft Office Suite (or similar construction management tools). Strong leadership and coaching skills with a hands-on, problem-solving approach. Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and committed to a collaborative, team-based culture.
Compensation Total Compensation:
