CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT COMPANY + ROLE OVERVIEW
The Flyway Companies are vertically integrated and consist of development, construction, management, real estate services, and live music/events. We are seeking a motivated, entry-level Construction Superintendent to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a degree in construction management, building sciences, or related fields – or someone with relevant leadership experience in the trades or maintenance – who wants to fast-track their growth in the construction and real estate industry. This role will coordinate a wide range of construction projects, gaining direct exposure to the full lifecycle of building projects for ground-up residential, general commercial, light industrial, and historic/adaptive re-use projects. You’ll work closely with our Director of Construction, CEO, and COO who will provide professional development and mentorship. The primary role is performing on-site coordination of Flyway’s construction projects to ensure appropriate sequencing, change management, and quality control. This role will be client-facing and will require good communication and organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Scheduling & Coordination Review project plans, schedules, and budgets with the Director of Construction Coordinate with subcontractors to review plans and schedules with them prior to project kick-off Sequence and coordinate subs according to project schedules Oversee daily onsite operations at each of Flyway’s construction projects to spot issues, manage change, and provide quality control Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and safety compliance Communicate with the Director of Construction, clients, engineers, architects, and inspectors as needed Provide weekly reports to clients and Flyway leadership for each project that include each week’s review (including photos), two-week look ahead, change requests/change orders and their impact to budget and schedule Learn and apply construction documentation, scheduling software, and field reporting tools Participate in project closeout, punch lists, and warranty walk-throughs Quickly address and resolves unexpected issues Maintain and adjust project timelines to avoid delays Quality Control Oversees daily on-site operations and ensures everything runs smoothly Prepares subs to close out tasks and clean up to make job sites ready for subsequent crews and phases Ensures subs’ work meets specifications and standards Performs walkthroughs and inspections during all stages of work Communicates expectations with subs Corrects subs and calls for warranties when their work is incorrect or below standards Time & Expense Tracking Maintain accurate records on a daily basis of work completed, materials used, and time spent on each job through Toggle and Bill.com Provides a weekly report of hours and talks through clarifications on hours/billing with the Director of Construction and the CFO Hands-on Work Performs hands-on work from time to time as needed to expedite work and assist with punch list items Problem Solving Ensure compliance with all code inspections Qualifications Experienced lead/foreman from the trades or facility maintenance – AND/OR – degree in Construction Management, Building Sciences, Architecture, or related field Strong organizational and communication skills are required Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, budgets, and schedules is required Proficiency with MS Office Word and Excel is required Positive attitude and ability to diffuse and resolve conflict is required Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally to job sites Reliable truck or SUV that can pull a small trailer with up a 2,000 lbs load Ability to lift at least 50 pounds is required Passionate about construction, learning new skills, and growing into a leadership role Curious and excited by a wide variety of project types—especially historic renovation and adaptive reuse Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills A clear communicator with the ability to work well under pressure Comfortable with basic construction technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, Co-Construct, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.) or eager to learn Experience supervising and coordinating is preferred Hands-on skills in general trades – carpentry, drywall, tile, flooring, painting, and hardware is preferred A toolset is preferred, but Flyway also supplies tools as needed Basic proficiency with smartphones/tablets and time tracking is preferred.
