JOB FUNCTION
The Construction Supervisor works with the Director of Construction and Volunteer Coordinator to insure that quality homes are constructed in a timely and cost effective manner.
JOB DUTIES
Provides adequate supervision and training of volunteers on the job site. This includes holding an initial meeting with the volunteers at the beginning of the workday to discuss the plan for the day, as well as a safety presentation and discussion. Supervise construction volunteers in a manner that encourages future participation, with an emphasis on safety, quality fellowship and mission. Plan volunteer needs to be sure that all volunteers have meaningful tasks. Assure that each job site is properly maintained and orderly, and that each home under construction has the appropriate display of permits and signs. Remove such signs and permits upon completion of construction. Address all safety concerns promptly. Insure that a first aid kit, directions to emergency care, and drinking water are available at each work site. Meet or exceed annual build plan as determined and approved by the SIHH Board of Directors. Plan the completion schedule for each home in the build plan, and assure that all necessary tools and materials are at the job sites prior to the start of each planned activity. Coordinate sweat equity work with the building schedule. Help to oversee the work of sub-contractors, labor and materials for houses as required. Insure that a member of the construction staff is at the job site prior to the scheduled time of arrival for volunteers. Supervise the quality of construction to achieve a finished product that will meet or exceed all applicable building codes and reflect positively on the SIHH image and reputation. Instruct and qualify leaders of self-directed work teams. Adjust Bills of Material lists if shortages or overages are discovered at installation. Establish and maintain a truck stock inventory to assure minimal shortages at the job sites for both material and tools. Request acquisition of hand tools as needed. Ensure availability of tools at job sites. Recommend acquisition of major tools and equipment as needed. Establish and maintain a periodic maintenance schedule for tools and vehicles. Secure tools for safe keeping Organize and maintain all construction storage facilities, job sites, SIHH vehicles and SIHH facilities to be free of clutter and debris. Conduct daily job site clean-up. Participate in weekly SIHH staff meetings and be prepared to offer suggestions for improvement for any aspect of the ministry. Seek appropriate cost savings opportunities. Treat all home owners, volunteers, donors, vendors, compliance officials, visitors, neighbors and staff with love, dignity and respect Performs other appropriate activities and duties as assigned.
