Crane and Rigging Operator 2.4 2.4 out of 5 stars Palatka, FL 32177 St Johns Ship Building, Inc. is a full-service shipbuilding and marine repair company that specializes in new construction and repair of commercial aluminum and steel vessels. Operations are conducted in a storm-protected 100-acre inland campus in the city of Palatka just 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville on the St. Johns River that provides direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. Position Summary As a Crane and Riggin Operator, you will operate a hydraulic boom crane, a lattice boom crane, and lift equipment to move materials, machines, or products in many directions. This position will also ensure that the powered industrial equipment is maintained and in working order. Responsibilities Maintains and ensures that the cranes and other powered industrial equipment are operational, and preventive maintenance is scheduled and completed per the preventive maintenance schedule for the piece of powered industrial equipment. Develop lift plans, determine load weights, and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload. Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, and placing loads. Inspect cables, slings, grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables as needed. Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices, making repairs as necessary. Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions and damage. Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking and outrigging under cranes. Load and unload bundles from trucks, and move containers to storage bins, using moving equipment. Review daily work schedules to determine sequences of crane usage, and special loading instructions. Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays, cover, uncover, and secure loads for delivery. Inspect bundle packaging for conformance to regulations and customer requirements and remove and batch packaging tickets. Maintain current knowledge of the quality control field, relying on current literature pertaining to materials use, technological advances, and statistical studies. Attend meetings pertaining to production and safety. Qualifications Five or more years of experience operating cranes and other industrial powered equipment. Must have current NCCCO crane operator’s license Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task. Obtain and appropriate the proper usage of equipment, facilities, materials. Be accountable or answerable for one’s conduct. Identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety. Comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information. Complete assigned tasks in stressful situations. Perform work accurately and thoroughly. Ability to think in terms of abstract ideas. Formulate a sound decision using the available information.
