As a Directional Drill Operator, you’ll play a pivotal role inour underground utility projects, operating horizontal directionaldrilling (HDD) equipment with precision and safety. Your expertisewill ensure the successful installation of utilities beneathvarious terrains, contributing to the infrastructure that supportsour communities.
Responsibilities:

Lead Safe and Precise Drilling Operations:
Execute bore plansusing horizontal directional drilling equipment (preferably DitchWitch) with a high level of accuracy and awareness of undergroundutilities.
- Plan and Prep the
Job Site:
Coordinate with the crew to ensurepotholing, utility mark-outs, bore paths, and equipment staging arecompleted before the first pull.
- Read and Execute from
Plans:
Interpret construction drawings,locate marks, and utility data to confidently guide the drillthrough complex or congested environments.

Set Vaults and Complete Tie-Ins:
Assist with the full scope ofwork, including vault setting, box installation, and conduittie-ins-start to finish.

Maintain and Troubleshoot Equipment:
Keep your drill, vac, andmixing system running smoothly-perform daily checks andtroubleshoot minor issues to minimize downtime.
- Work With and Lead the
Crew:
Communicate clearly with yourlocator, laborers, and foreman. Set the tone with focus, urgency,and professionalism on every job.
- Keep the
Site Clean and Compliant:
Maintain a safe, organized,and OSHA-compliant drill area-ensure all work meets company andregulatory standards.•
Adapt and Solve Problems On-Site:
Anticipate challenges andadjust drilling plans in real time to avoid conflicts or delayswithout compromising quality.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years operating horizontal directional drilling(HDD) equipment
- Familiarity with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, or similar HDD rigs, vactrailers, and mud systems
- Proven track record of safely drilling around live utilities inhigh-traffic or congested areas
Licensing & Compliance:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- required
- Clean driving record and current DOT medical card
- Deep understanding of 811 protocol, utility locating, and safeexcavation laws
Technical Skills:
- Able to read and interpret bore plans, utility maps, andconstruction drawings
- Skilled in beacon calibration, rod counting, backreaming, andexit/entry pit alignment
- Knowledgeable in mud mixing, tooling, and ground conditionadaptation
Leadership & Work Ethic:
- Takes initiative and thrives in a fast-paced,high-accountability environment
- Communicates clearly with crew members and leads by example onthe job site
- Committed to doing it right the first time, with no shortcutsor half-measures
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 90+ lbs, climb in and out of equipment, and workoutdoors in all conditions
- Capable of standing, kneeling, and operating for long stretcheswithout losing focus
