Job Description Position Purpose:
Performs electrical maintenance and emergency repairs, makesmodifications, and executes the preventive maintenance programdesigned for the facility. Supports the maintenance staff withrepairs of equipment both routine and emergency.
PrimaryDuties/Responsibilities:
Repairs and maintains all facilityelectrical wiring and fixtures in accordance with blueprints,manuals, and building codes using appropriate hand andelectrician’s tools. Installs and repairs electrical fixtures,apparatus, and control equipment. Repairs and maintains majorequipment such as motors, generators, and electrical controlsystems. Tests defective equipment to determine the cause ofmalfunction or failure using standard electrical test equipment.
Observes functioning of installed facility equipment to detecthazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
Inspects circuits and wiring for specified shielding and groundingand repairs or rewires plant equipment systems according to statebuilding codes and safety regulations. Plans layout of new wiringinstallations. Inspects all equipment on a regularly scheduledbasis; meets all requirements of the established preventivemaintenance program; inspects, maintains, and repairs solid stateboiler control systems and electrical switch gear and electricmotors. Adjusts, calibrates, and repairs electrical-pneumaticcontrol systems-inspects electrical-pneumatic system for emergencyrepairs-reports and logs all findings. Position may require workingnon-standard hours to complete a repair job; position requiresbeing a self-starter and having the ability to work independently;position will require extensive cross training in all aspects offacility maintenance. Possesses a valid commercial driver’s licenseto operate on-the-road equipment. Maintains the files necessary tosupport all maintenance activities. Must be able to participate onstandby rotation and be available for emergency callouts. Performsother duties as required.
Work Environment:
Must be able to workoutdoors in all types of weather.
QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED isrequired.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Extensive knowledge in theoperation and maintenance of vehicles, electrical equipment,motors, pumps, and equipment used in and around water andwastewater systems. Extensive knowledge with hand and power toolsand equipment commonly used in the electrical field. Knowledge ofthe methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in themaintenance and repair of advanced mechanical and/or electricalsystems. Fairly knowledgeable in computer operations-able to makespreadsheets and documents and enter information into Kloudgin.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Possess a valid vehicleConnecticut Electrical License. Possess a valid ConnecticutDriver’s License.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to liftobjects weighing up to 100 pounds from floor to waist level. Itemslifted are often bulky and difficult to handle. Must be able toclimb and work off a ladder or scaffold and climb into vehicleshaving high ground clearance. Must be able to walk up to 3 milesper 8-hour shift. Must be able to ascend and descend up to 1,000steps in an 8-hour shift. Must be able to carry a 50-pound toolbox,up a flight of stairs. Must be able to work in constricted places.
Must have flexibility to reach, stoop, and bend to work onequipment.
