Major Functions The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Trades Worker-Electrician for our Facility Management Department. The candidate must be able to perform installation, repair and maintenance work for commercial buildings. The candidate must also be able to troubleshoot complex electrical issues, inspect various electrical components while adhering to national and local safety codes.

These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.) Diagnosing complex electrical issues by reading diagrams and blueprints.
Install and repair wiring and conductive elements and components in buildings and other structures.
Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, fixtures and components to include transformers, circuit breakers and electrical panels.
Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams to understand electrical plans and drawings.
Familiar with the National Electrical Code as well as local electrical codes.
Inspect electrical components, test and troubleshoot wiring, and identify potential problems using various testing devices.
Repair or replace wiring, equipment or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
Ensure all work is performed safely by following all established safety protocols and procedures.
May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or possession of GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience working at the level of an electrical journeyman. A comparable amount of education, training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at the time of hire Must possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers license within thirty (30) days after hire. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have a current Journeyman’s license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of current electrical and building codes.
Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and safety standards for the electrical trade.
Knowledge of portable generators and automatic transfer switches.
Knowledge of different types of wiring methods, including conduit, cable tray, and low voltage.
Knowledge of a computerized work order system.
Ability to interpret electrical blueprints and schematics.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to groups and individuals.
Ability to respond to emergency situations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Ability to interact effectively with others.
Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Mental Demands:
Must be able to read and understand work orders, safety instruction, blueprints, mechanical drawings and verbal instructions, procedures and memos. Ability to read and send emails and relay information to others.
Physical Demands:
Visual acuity (depth perception, color, acuity) to operate a motorized vehicle. Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings. Ability to hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, grasp, lift, carry, pull, push up to 25 pounds.
Environmental Demands:
Work inside buildings, outdoors, and on rooftops of buildings. May also be required to work in extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold weather. Loud environments, near chemicals, dust, and fumes. May also be required to work in areas with poor ventilation and poor lighting, as well as confined spaces.
