GENERAL FUNCTION

The electrician installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard vessels and in the facility.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

Follow blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws and thread wires through conduit to terminals such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels.

Connect power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment.

Test electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance, and phase angle in circuits using meters and indicators.

Construct and install instrument panels using hand tools, rulers, dividers, and power drills, following specifications.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of blueprints and drawings or schematics preferred.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Marine Electrician.

Ability to read and interpret standard construction drawings and specifications.

Good working knowledge of systems operations and job-related tools, gauges, meters, etc.

Familiarity with all aspects of craft-specific marine construction, from design through installation and testing.
