Description of Work This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining all electrical systems at the Western North Carolina (WNC) Agricultural Center, as well as overseeing and inspecting electrical repairs and installations at other North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) facilities in western North Carolina as needed. Primary duties include maintaining the electrical infrastructure of the WNC Agricultural Center, which encompasses existing structures, RV sites, exterior lighting, over 40 electrical load centers throughout the fairgrounds, parking lot lighting, and ticket booths. Work must be performed at a journeyman level and includes overseeing, inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, including for new construction and renovations. The position is also responsible for ensuring the facility remains compliant with evolving Department of Insurance (DOI) and NCDA&CS safety policies. When necessary, this position will perform and/or supervise electrical work at other NCDA&CS facilities across western North Carolina. In addition, this individual may assist other skilled trades staff with projects critical to the overall operation of the complex. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Knowledge of all National, State, County and Department electrical codes and regulations. Experience in planning and supervising construction, installation, maintenance and repair of primary and/or secondary electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Knowledge of plumbing and carpentry skills.
Knowledge of the public address system operation and maintenance. Ability to understand specific needs of the users such as specific electrical and electronic needs, (both permanent and temporary) of trade show, horse show and specialty event promoters and vendors.
Ability to supervise permanent or temporary employees assigned to assist with a given project or duties.
Ability to plan and layout work and to develop designs from rough sketches and oral instructions. Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, wiring and diagrams.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

Knowledge of the horse, livestock, and trade show/meeting/event industry is helpful. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
