2025-2026 Commercial Kitchen Equipment Service Technician II Cabarrus County Schools Concord, NC 28025 Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs skilled Commercial Kitchen Equipment Specialist work and provides leadership in the installation, maintenance, and repair of kitchen equipment in school buildings and facilities. Work assignments are performed in accordance with accepted practices, and employee is expected to resolve most problems independently. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in contacts with school officials, contractors and various department heads. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Lead Electrician and Facilities Manager. Qualification Requirements 5 years experience with commercial kitchen equipment maintenance supplemented by vocational training in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Possession of CFESA certification or experience with the ability to pursue certification. Considerable knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, plumbing, gas, water, kitchen hood equipment, and fixtures. Considerable knowledge of approved industry methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards. General knowledge of the manufacturer’s operating systems, tools and equipment used in the installation and repair of commercial kitchen systems and controls in school system buildings and facilities. General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of this field of work. General knowledge of gas and plumbing systems. Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools and equipment necessary to perform installation and repair tasks. Ability to estimate manpower and material requirements for individual projects. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. Salary Pay Grade NC 18 Reports to Lead/Supervisor Essential Functions Repairs, installs, inspects, services, repairs, and maintains the kitchen equipment in school facilities meeting all related codes. Communicate with administrators about work orders. Installs and connects equipment including gas, electrical, water, drains, etc. as needed. Replace damaged or broken parts, wires, cables and faulty components. Performs repair tasks on a variety of systems including fuses, breakers, panels, branch circuits, light switches, receptacles, exhaust hood fans, motors and all other system equipment. Inspects requests for service to determine the cause of problems and needed work. Prepares a list of estimated requirements of materials, tools and equipment, including amount, quality and type needed, and presents for approval. Performs skilled work in addition to inspecting the work of semi-skilled workers. Reviews proper procedure to meet safety standards for customer and staff. Maintains records of time and material used on work orders. Completes work orders in a timely manner. Communicates with managers when work is complete. Requests, maintains and is responsible for the inventory and accountability of material, tools, repair parts and equipment assigned and that is issued for use. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Performs other related work as required. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including core drills, cherry pickers, scaffolds, electrical tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces. Physical demand requirements are for Heavy Work. Special Requirements Requires the ability to read work orders, logs, diagrams, blueprints, schematics, etc. Requires the ability to prepare activity logs, reports, etc., according to prescribed formats. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state of North Carolina. Must maintain a safe driving record.
