Job Description
Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking an experienced Apprentice Substation Electrician to construct and maintain our substation facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform a variety of semi-skilled duties in assisting the Journeyman Substation Electricians in the installation, testing and maintenance of substation equipment. Assist in the installation of underground trench boxes, conduit, pull boxes, control cable, grounding grids, footers, transformers, breakers, steel structures and all other aspects in the installation of substations or equipment replacement. Ability to utilize hand tools and test equipment to assist Journeyman Substation Electricians to perform construction, repair and maintenance of substation and other equipment. Ability to successfully complete all specified units and laboratories of the TVPPA substation maintenance program. Provide assistance in the maintenance and upkeep of electrical facilities at the Power Service Campus of Cleveland Utilities. Work from elevated positions from bucket trucks, aerial lifts, ladders, and substation structures. Operate bucket trucks, forklifts, power tools, specialized electronic testing equipment and other tools and equipment as needed. Other duties as directed by foreman/supervisor.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED equivalency. A valid Class A Commercial Driver s License or the ability to obtain within a maximum of 120 days. Experience in substation maintenance or a mechanically related field a plus. Technical school or industrial electrical experience a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crawl. Ability to climb structures and work from heights. Manual dexterity and ability to do heavy manual labor.
