Role:
This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment within electric substation facilities and distribution systems. Key responsibilities include performing high-voltage switching, conducting equipment inspections using complex test equipment, analyzing test data, and executing corrective actions. The role also involves maintaining detailed documentation for relays, 3-phase reclosers, pad mount switchgear, communication, and control equipment. The technician will support the installation, monitoring, and repair of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, including the design and development of technical solutions. A strong understanding of communication systems, SCADA devices (such as RTUs), and various test instruments is preferred. The role requires proficiency in operating computer-based systems such as Work Management Systems (WMS), SCADA, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Additional responsibilities include responding to system emergencies, performing distribution system troubleshooting and restoration, and conducting training sessions on electric system operations, testing procedures, and safety protocols. Strong leadership skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure, while maintaining and promoting safe working standards for self and others.
Qualifications Physical Requirements:
Must be able to bend, stoop, lift and work where conditions are cramped and head space is limited. Requires above normal visual and mental alertness quite frequently. Must be able to climb steps and work from ladders. Combination of office and field environment. Physical demands for a specific position within this classification may vary and / or exceed those demands described above.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Ability to problem-solve and working knowledge of equipment, tools, and instruments used to perform mechanical tasks Ability to read and utilize schematics, diagrams, and operations maintenance manuals Good written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills Valid driver’s license
Preferred Requirements:
Technical certificate or Associates Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering One (1) + years’ experience in the installation, wiring, and working in an electric field Experience reading and understanding programming logic and schematic diagrams One (1) + years’ experience managing, programming and installing Industrial Controls Systems (ICS) in a manufacturing environment One (1) + years’ experience in the utility industry and specialized industry training in utility operations and repairs as well as experience in installation, operation, and maintenance of electric facilities & assets Selection Process About the
