Who You Are You have hands-on experience in technical environments—shipyards, fabrication shops, construction sites, or similar. You can confidently read and interpret engineering drawings, specs, and schematics. You’re comfortable with numbers, data, and spreadsheets—and you know how to use them to tell a story. You take pride in accurate work and ask the right questions when something doesn’t add up. You value quality over speed, but you’re also efficient and proactive. You’re open to feedback and always looking to improve. ResponsibilitiesEstimating and Technical Analysis Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to develop labor and material takeoffs. Evaluate scope of work based on bid packages, ship checks, and supporting documentation. Generate detailed, itemized estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted services. Collaborate with trade foremen to validate labor hours and production methods. Identify long lead items and critical material needs early in the estimating process. Collaboration and Communication Interface with vendors and suppliers to gather accurate and current pricing. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes for cost, schedule, and technical compliance. Work with project managers and yard leadership to align estimates with operational capabilities and schedules. Assist in the transition from pre-bid to project execution by briefing key team members on estimate assumptions, risks, and opportunities. Process and Strategy Stay up to date on industry pricing, materials, labor trends, and competitive positioning. Maintain organized records of estimates, supplier quotes, and historical cost data. Continuously improve estimating processes and tools for efficiency and accuracy. Provide input to project planning and sequencing based on estimate data. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Naval Architecture, or a related technical field. Equivalent work experience will be considered. 3-5 years of relevant experience in estimating, project engineering, or cost analysis in maritime, industrial construction, or aerospace sectors. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to work with complex spreadsheets including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables is essential. Experience with AutoCAD, MS Project, or other estimating/project tools is a plus. Familiarity with marine systems and vessel construction/repair is strongly preferred. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and classification/flag state requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct ship checks and climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and access vessels safely. Bonus Skills (Nice to Have) Experience with estimating software or ERP systems. Multilingual or international project experience. Familiarity with classification societies and regulatory standards (ABS, Lloyd’s, USCG, etc.). Why Derecktor Derecktor is a dynamic and growing shipyard with a legacy of innovation and craftsmanship. We build and refit high-spec vessels with precision, care, and a commitment to excellence. You’ll work with a team that values technical rigor, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
