Job Description

Estimator Straight Line Construction Ocala, FL 34471 We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. This role is crucial to preparing accurate, competitive bids and helping us secure and deliver successful commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have strong construction estimating skills, a strategic mindset, and well-established relationships with vendors and subcontractors at the county, regional, and state levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Evaluation & Scope Review Analyze drawings, specifications, and documents to define project scope and requirements Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed to gather relevant information Quantity Takeoffs & Cost Estimation Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns for all construction divisions Develop complete and competitive cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination Leverage existing relationships with vendors and subcontractors across multiple construction trades Solicit and evaluate bids from trusted trade partners to ensure competitive pricing and timely execution Expand and maintain a network of reliable partners at the local, regional, and statewide level Proposal Preparation Compile clear, professional bid proposals including scope clarifications, alternates, exclusions, and assumptions Analyze cost risks and suggest value-engineering options to enhance competitiveness without sacrificing quality Internal Collaboration Coordinate with project managers, executives, and field teams to validate scope, schedule, and feasibility Participate in project handoff meetings and ensure accurate communication of estimate details Market Analysis & Cost Tracking Stay current with material and labor pricing trends, trade availability, and construction market shifts Maintain and update pricing databases for historical reference and future bidding Reporting & Performance Review Prepare bid summaries and reports for review by ownership and executive leadership Assist with developing processes and tools to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency Research and source RFPs and bid opportunities Conduct thorough market research to uncover relevant public and private sector solicitations. Evaluate potential opportunities based on fit with our technical expertise, service offerings, capacity, and compliance requirements. Coordinate with internal teams to assess feasibility and prepare pre-bid documentation as needed.

Qualifications:

3-5+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating Strong knowledge of building systems, materials, and methods Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and project specifications Proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, ProEst, Sage, Excel) Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills Established relationships with construction vendors and subcontractors at the local, regional, and statewide level

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with negotiated, design-build, and hard-bid projects Experience with public and private sector construction Field experience in construction is a plus Knowledge of permitting and code compliance procedures Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
