Overall Planning and Management of Estimating Department and Estimating Activities for
Specific Construction Projects, Including Preparation, Interpretation and Presentation of EstimatesJob Description:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Able to perform all essential Senior Estimator responsibilitiesSupervise and train estimating staffReview project plans, requirements and specificationsPrepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricingCoordinate subcontract solicitations and jobwalksDetermine labor and construction equipment costsPrepare conceptual estimatesMeet and maintain bidding and work schedulesSubmit requisitions for purchase of materialsCompare competitive trade bidsReview preliminary quotes and pre-bid estimates with Project ManagerSecure all bid documents (bid forms and quote letters)Prepare subcontractor bid list and submit drawings to subcontractorsParticipate in bid compilation on bid dayAssist jobsite staff with estimates after bid awardPerform post-bid buyouts (if applicable)Maintain good relationship with suppliers and subcontractorsSupervise and train estimating staff (if applicable)Complete other responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent experienceMinimum 8 years estimating experienceAbility to read and understand specifications and drawingsAbility to make accurate judgments and calculationsWorking knowledge of construction costs and principlesEstimating experience (quantity takeoffs, purchasing accounting; engineering design knowledge and project management experience desirable)Drafting and computer skillsLeadership and supervisory skills
