Chief Engineer Summary The Industrial Estimator is responsible for providing cost estimates for projects at Maxim Watermakers, a manufacturer of marine equipment. This position lays the framework for determining customer pricing for new projects and the company’s ability to meet Gross Margin and Gross Profit goals for both new and existing projects. Principle Duties and Responsibilities Identify the scope of new projects or re-evaluate the scope of existing, ongoing projects.
Determine direct labor, direct materials, and time requirements for all projects.
Work with vendors and subcontractors to obtain optimized pricing for system components.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects.
Identify potential project risks and incorporate contingency plans into cost estimates.
Analyze project designs and suggest cost-saving measures while maintaining project quality.
Present reports on prepared estimates.
Maintain a labor and cost database.
Define costing trends.
Assist Engineering department in BOM preparation.
Assist Engineering department in CAD design. Qualifications and Educational Requirements Minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial setting
Associate or bachelors degree a plus.
Knowledge of CAD software
Proficient with Microsoft 365 products (Excel, Word, etc.)
Strong ability to read customer specifications and detailed drawings.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards
Must be willing to work long hours on occasion as required to complete proposals to meet submittal deadlines. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers, vendors and coworkers at all levels.
Excellent problem-solving, task prioritization, follow-up, and customer service skills required
Must be self-motivated individual
