The
- Estimator
- is responsible for all aspects of estimating materialquantity takeoff, labor burden forecasting, subcontractor proposalsolicitation, and developing the conceptual phasing and methods forconstruction to be applied on the specific project being estimated. Inaddition, they will participate in business development activitiespresentations and interviews.
- Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently by understanding the full scope of the project through document review and asking questions of the design team and owner
- Prepare quality take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish accurate values for the work
- Develops scopes of work for specific trades and receives and analyzes subcontractor/vendor pricing
- Prepare bid leveling worksheets on the subcontractor proposals received
- Utilizes knowledge of the project schedule and critical path in project estimates
- Completes bid forms, bid bonds, etc. on bid projects including general requirements. Participates in and summarizes bid day activities
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Maintains cost data base by preparing cost comparisons and reconciling with previous estimates
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications. Gains field operational exposure through onsite project support, as opportunities exist.
- Job Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in related field preferred
- 5-7 years of construction/estimating experience required
- Experience with Sage 100 and On Screen Takeoff software is preferred
- Knowledge of the means and methods of construction management
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
- Understanding of the influence of market conditions on pricing
- Proactive and innovative while developing deliverables accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally
- Pleasant and confident demeanor when dealing with colleagues and clients
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English
- Efficient and well organized
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must have valid drivers license and be insurable by the company
