Position Overview
As a Project Engineer at PARIC, you will play a critical role in supporting successful project execution from preconstruction through closeout. This hybrid role also includes foundational estimating responsibilities, giving you exposure to both project management and cost planning functions. You’ll assist with technical coordination, contract administration, and stakeholder communication, while also supporting quantity takeoffs, pricing, and subcontractor engagement during the estimating phase. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in both field operations and preconstruction within a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
Project Engineer Responsibilities
Provide technical and administrative support to ensure successful project execution
Support the development, maintenance, and distribution of project estimates and bids
Assist in developing and updating project schedules; communicate updates with subcontractors and Owners
Contribute to the review, development, and issuance of subcontracts and change orders
Develop working knowledge of cost book, financial management tools, and change order processes
Understand and support compliance with Owner contracts and PARIC quality standards
Manage administrative tasks including RFIs, submittals, and pricing/change order tracking
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive resolution of project issues
Identify project risks and assist in creating risk mitigation plans
Promote safety by supporting implementation of OSHA and PARIC safety standards
Mentor and develop project interns as part of team support
Apply PARIC Core Values throughout all phases of project support
Other duties as assigned
Costing & Estimator Responsibilities:
Support estimating team in quantity takeoffs, pricing, and bid coordination
Learn and apply basic CSI Divisions, unit pricing, and estimating standards
Interpret written scope of work narratives and build cost estimates based on said information.
Work with subcontractor partners to cost out multiple design options.
Assist in preparing Scope of Work exhibits and participate in subcontractor buyout efforts
Build foundational relationships with subcontractors and superintendents to support learning
Observe field activities to strengthen construction knowledge and inform estimating input
Practice time management and escalate issues or questions when guidance is needed
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by learning PARIC’s estimating processes and tools
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field
2+ years of experience in construction or project engineering
Basic understanding of construction sequencing, build processes, and project administration
Familiarity with onscreen takeoff tools (OST, SmartBid, Destini or equivalent), BlueBeam, scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and construction document management
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and construction financial processes
Experience in creating, updating and utilizing detailed sub bid analysis (scope sheets) forms
Knowledge of contract requirements (prime and subcontractor) and construction safety standards
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with subcontractors, superintendents, and internal teams
Exposure to risk assessment and mitigation planning in construction environments
Proven relationship building with trade partners in the regional area.
