Director of Construction Company Overview Originating in 2022, Unity Construction is a small business General Contracting Firm focusing on the Federal, Aviation, and Commercial markets throughout the Southeastern United States. Unity staff have over 30 years of experience delivering large-scale horizontal and vertical construction projects for clients such as DoD, USACE, FAA, and the energy markets. This allows Unity Construction LLC to be a solution to any project no matter what stage or size. Position Summary Unity Construction is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator with expertise in civil and concrete construction to join our preconstruction team. This position plays a key role in evaluating project costs, preparing competitive bids, and supporting strategic project planning across a variety of commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in quantity takeoffs, pricing, and construction methodologies, paired with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil and concrete scopes using AgTech, Bluebeam, and/or Excel Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and site conditions to identify risks, scope gaps, and cost impacts Solicit, review, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accuracy, scope alignment, and competitiveness Develop complete bid proposals, including pricing breakdowns, clarifications, exclusions, and value engineering options Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to align estimates with construction means and methods Maintain and update historical cost data, production rates, and market pricing to support future estimates Attend site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs to evaluate field conditions, access, and logistics affecting the estimate Assist project teams with pricing change orders and scope modifications throughout the project lifecycle Monitor industry trends, labor rates, and material costs to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions Follow company standards and procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all estimates Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the success of the estimating and preconstruction team

Qualifications:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience) Minimum of 3+ years of estimating experience in civil and/or concrete construction Solid understanding of excavation, sitework, formwork, reinforcing, and structural concrete systems

Preferred:

Proven experience bidding on civil construction and concrete projects, including site development, structural concrete, earthwork, and underground utilities Familiarity with FAA-funded project requirements, including Federal Aviation Administration specifications, pay items, and bidding procedures Experience with public works and infrastructure bidding, including DOT and municipal projects Understanding of unit-price contracts, government forms, and compliance with prevailing wage and DBE requirements Background working with cost estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, B2W Estimate, or similar platforms Field experience or a background in civil project management or field engineering is a plus
